Well she is just excited as I am that I just got my Metz 58 AF-2 for Canon. It is my first jump into external flashes, so it is going to take me some getting used too. I got one to turn out, out of the 50+ I took after its un-boxing. So the current setup was Canon T3i on Manual, Canon 28mm-135mm f/3.5-5.6, and Metz Mecablitz 58 AF-2 C. Then of course ran it through light room with some heightened contrast.

Here is are some pictures that Amanda took of the setup of her Baby Shower. She used our Canon T3i, with our new 28mm-135mm lens. Most shots were taken on auto, and turned out great. Then I ran them through, Lightroom. So, here you go.

I Took Some Photos

Recently one of my friends asked me to take some promotional photos of him for a split CD that he recorded. I, being a photography enthusiast, immediately jumped on it. It was a little odd giving direction (even though it was minimal) to one of my friends. But it was only akward for me for a few minutes, then I just focused on getting good framing, lighting, and focusing on him as a subject. These things may have distracted me from the initial strangeness, so I think that his help get me some great shots.

So… here are a few, after I ran them through Lightroom. Specs below photos.

I have been actually keeping up with this blog for a few months now. Recently (this morning) I had a momentous occasion. It was a fairly simple (for me) HTML5/jQuery question. I finally got a legitimate question posted on one of my articles. So I promptly replied. But more importantly, I am sticking to my original goal of sharing my experiences and helping others out with anything and everything that I have learned. So, bring on the questions!

Inherent Good

This thought comes up to me on a daily basis, why is there so much negativity online? And by this I mean who really gets that upset, to spend 1-2 hours on a reply spending that much time to com up with the most original and overly complex witty and vitriolic response. I believe that is one of the saddest, loneliest people in the world. Now the are great in number, but we (the calm headed normal people) outnumber them by far.

I work for a newspaper and we get a modest 14,000 unique visitor per day. Of those 14,000 unique we get around 100-200 comments per day. Of those comments we get about 1-5 negative comments per day. Now I know that at best we are looking at 1 out of 200 people are assholes. So looking optimistically, it looks like 0.5% (this is a super loose number in a crazy un-scientific focus group) of us are trolls. So almost all of us are normal, unsarcastic fuck bags. This gives me hope for the internet. I believe that there is inherent good in almost every user in the internet. I also believe that people are quicker to comment on anything they don’t like as opposed to comment on anything that they do like. It makes joy rainbows shoot out of my face when I come across positive comments and positive communities online. I just want to re-state that anyone who goes out of their way to troll people online, has a deep empty void in their life or in their sould that they need to hide. So once again fuck them and long live positivity online!

Cut the Cord

April 22nd, 2012 | by | business of the interent, life, thoughts

Time and time again I have considered canceling my cable, which has been coined as ‘cord cutting’. I barely watch it, the cost is constantly rising, and most carriers equipment and software is a joke. This is just a small list of complaints, I have many more but I don’t want to be on that soapbox too long.

I do enjoy some of the content out there, but I have to sift through 99% of the crap that they call TV now. This is, more now than ever, an easier task to accomplish thanks to the Internet.

Now I can’t speak for anyone else, but almost all of the shows that I want to watch are available online. But I have to wait a little bit longer than people who have cable. I have to wait between one and eight days after it airs, to watch it online. This may be a good argument for cable, but I record my shows so I don’t get to them right away anyway. But if I wait it is free… well of course there are commercials. But what the hell, even when I pay for cable I have to watch them.

So here is the base argument. Watch the programming I want, with commercials, for free OR watch the programming I want, with commercials, and pay for it.

Now i know there are more arguments like not all content is available online. But I will flip that around and as of recent, there has been programming made only for online. Hulu and YouTube have both put up a bunch a bunch of cash for development of original content, and I must say that I am really enjoying it. I would strongly suggest checking out ‘Battlegound’ on Hulu. I don’t want to try and give a poor explanation, just check it out. On YouTube I would suggest watching the ‘Geek & Sundry’ channel and the ‘Nerdsist’ channel.

Now here is my final argument for cutting the cable cord. Watching a FOX show on Hulu will suggest that I watch thing that I may actually like, not just other shows that the FOX has created. It may suggest web shorts, clips from news shows, foriegn programming, or even original content that is related to my interests. So it is a great way for me to find new shows.

Oh yeah, that wasn’t my final argument, here it is. Money. Such a simple sentence with a lot of power. I estimated that I could save just under $900 per year by cutting the cord. So big cable, get your shit together of Hulu will be ahead of you in no time, showing your content.
